Voted 'DVD OF THE MONTH' by Pregnancy Magazine!
At first thought, a childbirthclass DVD might seem like another unnecessary prenatal purchase. If you're signing up to take a course, why would you need a recording? But think about having the freedom to watch at your own pace rather than schedule your life around the sessions. And the chance to watch key parts over and over.

If this is starting to sound good, consider the recently revamped Laugh and Learn About Childbirth. The focus is on natural childbirth, but even if you're pro-epidural, you'll learn key information. Besides the basics like mom's anatomy and labor signs, instructor Sheri Bayles, B.S.N., R.N., teaches you about body changes that are sure labor tip-offs and decodes doctor speak so you'll feel comfortable in the hospital. The tone is lighthearted, but it's backed by experience: Bayles has been a labor and delivery nurse and is a certified lactation consultant as well as a Lamaze instructor.

Her jokes are actually funny, and the information is priceless. Our pick for playing again and again: the section on labor comforts, which shows pillow-supported positions and how he can massage you.

Skip expensive classes - buy this DVD! K. Adkins (Robbisville, NJ)
We bought this mainly because one 8 hour class of information felt overwhelming (and $130 class fee seemed very high!).
We LOVED this DVD. We watched at our own pace and used many of Sheri's techniques during my labor and delivery, including a breathing technique when they tell you NOT to push. Who knew that could happen! Sheri did! I believe my delivery was easier because the "pushing" technique Sheri taught was dead-on to get that baby out as quick as possible! She really does cover everything.

Awesome for squeamish fathers-to-be, J. Baldina (Raleigh, NC USA)

I negotiated that my husband would be in the delivery room as long as he didn't have to attend childbirth classes with gory videos. (And honestly, the idea of squatting on pillows and panting with a bunch of other preggies did not appeal to me either!) But when the time came closer we realized that we needed more info than the books could give. My husband purchased this and we both loved it. Lots of good info, and even the graphic stuff wasn't bothersome. We enjoyed her sense of humor and laughed a lot. Cost a fraction of what the hospital childbirth classes were running - plus, we plan to review it again in a month right before I'm due - you can't do that with regular childbirth classes.

Hello, my name is Sheri Bayles, RN. I am an award winning Certified Lamaze Instructor and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with 20 years of experience teaching at New York Presbyterian Hospital. I’ve taught over 5,000 couples, including many celebrities.

My video 'Laugh and Learn About Childbirth' is the only complete childbirth course on the market. I cover all aspects of labor and delivery, including pain relieving options, as well as the entire Lamaze training - including one breathing technique and natural childbirth. My classes are taught in 6 easy to watch lessons.

Sometimes Doctors can use words and phrases that are confusing to you. This is one of the most important events of your life. I explain to you what your doctor is talking about. After my class you will be better informed about what is happening with you and your baby.

Following are some of the most common questions that I hear every day regarding labor and delivery and childbirth classes. I hope you will find the answers to some of yours:

What kinds of childbirth classes are there, and how much do they cost?
There are 3 different kinds of classes. One is Lamaze, which is the most standard. Another is Bradley. This is a non-interventionary approach and needs a lot of husband coaching. It’s the most “Granola-Nola” The third is XICEA, which is an off-shoot of Lamaze.
Cost can vary depending on where you live. Big cities are more expensive, small towns are cheaper. Generally you can expect to find a trained childbirth educator for anywhere between $100 - $250 per program.

When should I start taking classes?

It is recommended the class should end 2 – 4 weeks before the baby is due. That’s in case the baby is early you’re prepared, yet not so far in the past that the information you learned is forgotten.

At what point during labor should I go to the hospital?
Most Doctors would like you to show up when the contractions are 3 – 5 minutes apart, or when your water has broken and it’s green!

How painful is labor anyway?
The classic analogy we make is somewhere to passing a kidney stone, or 500thousand times worse than your worst menstrual cramps.

How many times do you find yourself not understanding what your physician is talking about?
Knowledge is power and my video will help you to figure out the labor and delivery process as well as empower you to make informed decisions concerning your birth. You will learn what to expect and how to ask for what you want.

This complete Preparation for Childbirth Class is essential for every mother and father to be!

Are you certified or affiliated with any organization?
I am a certified Lamaze Educator as well as a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Basically my job revolves around babies and boobs.

As the partner, why should I take a childbirth class?
Because you don’t want to be the guy standing in the corner watching your wife in pain and not having the foggiest idea on what to do about it. Knowledge is power!

I have had a C-section before, can I have a vaginal delivery, and will a childbirth class help?
Yes you can, as long as the incision is across your tummy. It’s called a V-bac which is an acronym for vaginal birth after cesarean. However this is something you must discuss with your doctor. There is a whole section on cesarean deliveries in my video, including reasons for a C-section as well as recovery from a C-section.

I already attended a childbirth class, why should I get one on video?
A second timer often wants a refresher to remind them of what they learned the first time. The video makes it much more convenient, without the cost of a babysitter and the time it takes to go to classes.

How will I know for sure when my labor starts?
I can guarantee on my nurse’s license that when labor begins, you’ll know! It may take you a few hours to figure it out, but you won’t be standing in your living room, staring at the floor, screaming, “The baby just came out of me! Did anyone see what happened here?”

I believe humor is the best way to teach any subject. You will always remember it easier and over a longer period of time. This is what makes my classes so special.

Over the years, many of my couples approached me to present my classes on video, because they wanted to buy it for other couples, review it again at their own pace and in the convenience of their own home or be updated on new developments in preparation for childbirth. Finally, their wish came to reality in the form of this 4 1/2 hour video class.

I have viewed this set of tapes, part of the tapes I have viewed more than once. One of the advantages of owning the tapes. When I saw the tapes I couldn't believe how much I learned even after having given birth to three children.
I cannot express enough what a great tool this is in preparing couples for the big event.

Isabelle Mannix, Wilton, CT
As a Labor and Delivery nurse for the past 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to see these tapes were as thorough as they could be concerning labor and childbirth. Sheri delivers the information with humor and wit as well as an incredible base of knowledge.

Katyaskorik, New York, NY
I was registered for a Lamaze class and bought this video only as a backup, in case my husband couldn't make it to class. Turns out, the class was really boring, while both my husband and I found this video incredibly captivating and helpful. We actually watched it twice. I felt very prepared for labor after I watched this video. The instructor is great - very structured, offers tips that you can remember easily, and has a great sense of humor. I wish she were my labor nurse!
